So far, you have learned how to search for arrest information at the county level. However, there are a few situations where you may need to reach out to a city law enforcement department for arrest information.
One situation is when they are the arresting agency, and you want the complete police report. Another situation is when the person was just taken into custody and the information is not available with the county record custodians yet.
To walk you through this process, here is an example of requesting arrest information from the county’s largest city, Deltona. As a citizen, you can request a police report or other type of arrest information through the Deltona Police Department.
You can submit a public records request for this information through their online portal.3 You can also check back with this portal for the status of your request. Like online search tools, you will need to provide enough information for the police department to locate the records you seek.
For additional questions about arrest records with the City of Deltona Police Department, you can contact them by phone at 386-860-7030 or in person at the address below:

How Do I Check Previous Arrests Made in Volusia County Florida?
A criminal record will let you know if the person has been arrested in the past and convicted of any crimes. To learn about a person’s past criminal history, you can conduct a search with the Volusia County Clerk’s Case Inquiry Tool.4
To conduct a search with this tool, start by selecting a criminal matter option from the Case Type drop-down menu. Your options include felony, misdemeanor or searching both.
You can search by entering the defendant’s name or the case number. If you conduct a name-based search, you can also enter the person’s date of birth if you have that information. Other options to filter your results include setting a filing or offense date range or choosing to search criminal records with a specific case status (e.g., closed).
Once you enter your search information, click the “submit” button. The results page will provide a list of all matching criminal cases. Here, you will see the case number, party names, type of case, status and filing date.
For additional information, you can click on the case number for the criminal matter you want to view.
The online criminal record is divided into several sections. The summary contains information on the filing and offense date as well as the processing location. The parties section will include details on both the defendant as well as any attorneys associated with the case.
The docket will provide a list of every action that occurred in the criminal case. The court events section will provide the same chronological listing of information but will focus on hearings associated with the criminal case.
The offense information will include the specific charges that were brought against the defendant as well as any sentence they received from their conviction. There is also a custody section that provides the date they were taken into custody, where they are incarcerated, and other information related to their arrest record.
In addition to the online search tool, you can also request records with the court record custodian of these cases. There are two types of criminal cases, and each is handled by a different court in Volusia County. Misdemeanor cases are handled by the Volusia County Court, while felonies are adjudicated by the District Court.

While you can search for arrest information at the city level, you do not have the same option for accessing a defendant’s criminal record.
All criminal information is handled at the county level in Volusia. While you cannot narrow your search, you can search throughout the state using the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) Criminal Record Search Tool.5
To use this tool, you can enter either a convict’s name or their Department of Corrections number. For name searches, you can also elect to search by an individual’s alias if you do not know their legal name.
In addition to search criteria, you will also have to choose which database to search for the defendant in. This online search tool allows you to separately select to search either fugitives, released inmates, those under supervision or inmates that are currently incarcerated. After you make your selection, you will navigate to the results page for that database.
For all matching criminal records, the results page will provide you with the defendant’s full name, age, race, sex and Department of Corrections number. For released inmates, you can see when they got out of jail, and for those currently incarcerated, you can see where they currently are in custody.
To see additional criminal record information, you can click on a convict’s name. On their criminal record, you will first see some summary information, including their current sentence (if applicable) and their mugshot.
Next, you can view an inmate’s current and prior sentence history. These sections will detail all charges, past and present, a person was convicted of, along with a description of the offense. Included in this section is the location and date of the offense, as well as a case number for you to look up the matter with the appropriate court.
Lastly, you can view the sentence associated with each criminal offense.
There is also a separate section that provides the start and end date for every time the inmate served time in prison. You can also find a section on the defendant’s criminal record with retainer information.
Depending on what you are looking for, you now have tools to access current and past arrest information. You are equipped to search within Volusia County, with specific cities and throughout Florida. In this next section, you will learn more about the bail process in Volusia County and how you can assist someone who was recently arrested.
How To Pay Bail & Get a Loved One Out of Jail in Volusia County Florida
While you are now equipped and prepared to search for arrest records, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to take further action.
One example is if you have a loved one in jail and you want to post their bail. Posting bail is something that most people know about, yet they are not familiar with the specific process.
Once a person’s bail is set, they will remain in jail for the duration of the criminal case. However, you have a couple of options to help them stay out of jail during this time.
The first option is often referred to as the self-bail process. In this situation, you put your assets up as a bond for the person’s release from jail. Depending on the amount and your financial situation, this may be a cash or property bond. When a property bond is issued, a determination has to be made that there is enough equity. If so, a lien will be placed against the property.
If you are looking to post a person’s bail, you can do so with the Volusia County Branch Jail Booking Office.6 For additional information about specific steps you need to take with them, you can call them at 386-254-1555 or go in person to the address below:
Volusia County Branch Jail
1300 Red John Rd.
Daytona Beach, Florida 32120
If this seems too stressful, you do not have the funds, or you are nervous about the defendant’s likelihood of showing up to future court hearings, you can use a bail bondsman. This alternative allows you to pay a fee, and in exchange, the bondsman will handle the process of posting bail.
In addition, the bondsman bears the risk of losing their bond if the defendant does not show up for an upcoming hearing. The typical fee for these services is 10% of the bail amount.
There are benefits and drawbacks to each of these options for posting bail. It’s up to you to choose the option that works best under your particular circumstances.
